Our handmade espresso extraction process was honed over twenty years of painstaking exploration of the craft, science and spirit of coffee in a remote off-grid intentional community deep in the forest of the Oregon Cascades Mountains. That exploration continues, and we're always learning. We are inspired by teachers such as Matthew Perger and the crew at Barista Hustle, Scott Rao, the Oromo tribe of SW Ethiopia, Michael Pollan, Timothy Leary, and many others. Our grinding and extraction process is intentionally designed to engage body, mind and spirit.
Our grinding and extraction tools were hand tooled by Ross Spencer of Portaspresso in Australia.
We exclusively use Nossa Familia Full Cycle blend. Our recipe: Dose: 21g, Time:40 sec, Yield: 54g. We practice both pressure and flow profiling during extraction.
What happens during the guided meditation?
Our guided meditations last about 20-30 minutes and are not scripted. We generate them authentically, in the moment, from principles of self-inquiry generally consistent with the "Direct Path" of Advaita Vedanta (non-dualism). Our methods are largely inspired by the practices of non-dual teachers such as Rupert Spira, Alan Watts and Ram Dass. They are neither associated with nor conflict with any particular religious or spiritual practice. During the meditation, we will direct your attention to various aspects of your experience on a journey inwards. At the center of that which we call "I" we discover the peace and Love that is nature of our being.
Where are Inspiriances held?
We offer Inspiriance sessions either at our home office in SE Portland (address provided in your confirmation email), or at a place of your choosing. You can choose which type/location you want during checkout. Note that we charge more for custom locations to cover the added expenses associated with preparation and travel. If you choose a custom location, you'll provide the location address during checkout. For our handmade espresso process, we'll either need a 15Amp electrical outlet for our electric kettle, or an alternative way to heat water. Forest-service approved fire rings count ;-). If you'll be providing an alternative heat source, please let us know via the checkout "Additional Information" field.
How long does an inspriance last?
Generally, about two hours. However, Inspiriances aren't scripted, and arise authentically in the moment. By consent of all participants, we might extend the time to accommodate the needs of the group.
